Networking is underrated

posted on: September 19th, 2007

I cannot release this information just yet. But I will let you know that the dream team is coming along quite nicely. Oh yes. There are big bloggers on this squad. We will make noise in the blogosphere.

But sshhhh.. Keep you mouth shut for the time being. haha. Oh man. Blogging has never become more fun to me that it is today. Why, well with Blogging The Movie, its hard to have enemies. Everyone can benefit from it.

To my sponsors you ain’t seen nothing yet. Keyword of the week “Networking”. How can you network? There’s this plain and simple rule about networking, you have you give before you can receive. For instance if you’re a newbie and you have no money or insights then try to give time. How about you write a free review. I came into the blogging world giving 10 free site reviews a week. Let’s just say I made friends quickly. Trust me if you want to become big you have to give more than you receive.

I hear lots of what do I get out of this? Well most of the time the people that are asking are 1-6months old in blogging and they are not visionaries, they can only see the present. You’re an infant, pay your dues and the respect will follow. I’m not the smartest blogger out there, but I am one of the sneakiest.

Try it out

Give 2 reviews this week to a top blogger. I mean a full on review with 4 / 5 backlinks with relevancy. You’ll be shocked at your response if you continue this for a week. Cheers.

The hunt for the Dream Team - 10 bloggers

posted on: September 19th, 2007

After having a good talk with Mr. Gary Lee, I mapped out a little plan. Gary is a great contact to have and he has been busy with his book. He will soon release the information about it on his blog. So in the meantime you can go check out his blog for internet marketing.

10 Bloggers to be filmed

1. John Chow is in
2. I want to get Darren Rowse
3. I want to get Shoemoney
4. I want to get Dosh Dosh
5. Top Blogger
6. Top Blogger
7. Top Blogger
8. Top Blogger
9. a female blogger
10 . newbie blogger - one lucky bastard

We will be casting 9 top bloggers and 1 newbie blogger will have a chance to be in the movie. A newbie would refer to 1-6 months experience in blogging. I’m sure after the movie is done and shown all over the world this newbie will become a pro. The 10 bloggers will benefit because they will be branded with blogging to the rest of the pubic who are potential bloggers. This is will give them exposure and a great way to be part of something that will benefit the community.

BTM update

Currently right now I have been scheduling interviews with speakers / bloggers for the upcoming Blog World Expo in Las Vegas for November 8th-9th. I have been selectively targeting top bloggers to see if they would like to participate in the movie. There will be 10 featured, however I will also get insights from blog related companies, and journalism professors.

These companies could be web-hosting domains, blogging software widgets, affiliate marketing programs. Some of you might think that companies would love to hop aboard this opportunity to be branded with the movie or have an ad place on this website. You’re damn right they would be happy.

Whats the movie going to be like?

I get this question from time to time. Well it’s a documentary. The movie is about real life and the movie is dependent on what is actually filmed, of course we will highlight what is most entertaining and beneficial for the film. I will try to shed light about blogging to the pubic that does not know about this society of information consumers.

John Chow, Darren Rowse, and Shoemoney - Would you guys like to be in the movie?

posted on: September 17th, 2007

Forget a poll, lets just have all 3 of you guys in the movie! Who’s game? If not, I’m sure another top blogger would like to be.

John Chow

John Chow

The evil genius himself. In all fairness John Chow actually is one of the blogs that I visit most often. I was referred to visit his site from my good friend Ms. Danielle. After I read his PDF ebook on how to make money online, I was an instant fan. Where do I sign up?! Where do I start? So after a week of hunting through all his old articles I started my own site Cash for Comments, a blog based on guerrilla marketing tactics.

Many people love to hate John Chow because of his style of writing, which is not for the weak. His strong personality shows through his blog. He boasts about his monthly earnings while readers and haters flock to his site. His recent Total Blog Income For August 2007: $17,828.61, is the light at the end of the tunnel that most bloggers dream to accomplish.

He grew fame creating The TechZone and TTZ Media Network. Creator of some of the fastest computers the world have ever seen. He currently resides in Vancouver, Canada. Which might not be a bad place to visit. I love the scenery there.

For the first time visitor, this site use to be call The Wired World Of John Chow. Now it’s call the John Chow dot Com The Miscellaneous Ramblings of a Dot Com Mogul, because that is what I am - a Dot Com Mogul - and that is what I’ll be doing - rambling.

John Chow replied that he is interested in being filmed. I will be honored to share his insights about blogging. John has the most strongest personality in the Blogosphere which gives life to this textual world. I want to showcase how the masses have change the way we consume information. If you are a John Chow fan, please comment on his blog and let him know that you cannot wait to see him on film. [ John Chow is in ]

Problogger

Problogger

Problogger

Every infant has to learn the basics. Darren Rowse at Problogger has created a site that will allow any level blogger to come and benefit from his blog. Newbie bloggers reach out to him because he makes it a one stop shop for all beginner needs. His site has straight to point answers.

Darren is an asset to many. His resourceful tips to improve blogging give great content. His recent article on improving design by looking at magazines, analyzes the idea of using layout designs from an old medium. Darren believes that one should not throw away all design knowledge while trying to mold this new medium of blogging.

Darren’s circle of fans is so strong that he even has a job board. He is also the Vice President of b5media, a network of 255+ bloggers posting different topics.

I started it in September 2004 mainly because I wanted to keep a record of what I was learning about blogging for money. Since then I’ve added over well over 3500 articles, tips, tutorials and case studies to my archives here.

I have recently commented on Darren’s site asking if he would be interested. He replied that maybe Brad Pitt should play his role. Haha, So how about it Darren? [ Darren Rowse is it a maybe or are you in?]

Shoemoney

Shoemoney

The guy that always sheds light to new ideas. I love his short simplistic approach. Feed the need. Shoemoney has the most up to date information on internet news. His recent post about Dance Jam with MC Hammer as the front man, excites me, because I love to dance in little battle circles. This is one site I will definitely come back to.

No one can forget his most viewed photo of him holding his Google adsense check of $132,994.97.

“With the help of my wife and her stable income as a physician, I was able to make a break from corporate life and start ShoeMoney Media Group.? From the company’s inception, Schoemaker has embraced the mantra, “prioritize potentially profitable projects.? He is constantly generating new ideas for sites, programs and marketing, channeling energy into those that truly have the potential for long-term traffic and revenue.

Shoemoney is an asset to the blogosphere because he always searches for the next big profitable project. I like this mantra, to keep it simple and straight down to business. [ Shoemoney are you game? ]

John Chow Darren Shoemoney

How could this benefit them? Well the movie could generate hype to the unknown public or potential newbies and they will be branded with blogging to the masses forever.

Time to impact the world. Whats your dream? Why not join me?

Convention Insider notes our Unique Marketing Tactic

posted on: September 17th, 2007

A blog post was recently written by Jim Turner from Convention Insider. He notes that our marketing tactic is a unique way of paying for a convention booth. He loves the idea of our car sponsorship benefits.

This is a different way of procuring a booth at a convention and obviously will not work for everyone, but if you are a small guy that needs to gain publicity and wants to get into the convention as an exhibitor it certainly is a cool way to do it. - Jim

While reading this article it seems that conventions are a bigger business than I realized. Convention Insider is the world’s leading online resource for convention, tradeshow, and conference planning that generates about 5 trillion dollars in Las Vegas alone. Maybe that’s why the VMA’s were held there. I’m beginning to feel like Las Vegas is finally going back to the golden days. The days where people of money and success, venture off to the desert to handle their business and pleasure.

On the Radio in 3 hours

posted on: September 17th, 2007

I will be on the radio in 3 hours with the Keeler Show. This is a New York radio station broadcasting on KISS FM and they will bring great media attention to this documentary. I’m not really sure what to expect as I live in California and the timing would be 4:45AM PST. Which means I will have only slept for a few hours. Now as I kick off this media craze, I want to expose BTM the right way. I hope that they can share my vision that Blogging is a community that is changing the way we consume information.

A documentary is meant to shed light on a discourse community. Blogging has to be one of the biggest communities in this generation. People might feel that bloggers would not be an interesting topic to film. However, everyone has a story in life, and out of the millions of bloggers I want to showcase 10 that I believe are extraordinary. As a true believer in the power of positive thinking, my goals in life will always challenge who I am. For now, I want the world to know that it is still possible for one to change the lives of many. Am I that one? This is too early to tell, but if I can go about my life to impact just one person in a positive way then everything will have been worth the journey.

Side note | Reviews

The reviews will be posted from Monday through Thursday for higher traffic exposure. The review will come in batches and they will go in order of purchase. The reviews will cycle itself through all 500 bloggers.

Update: They called me at 4:45AM to let me know that they would call me tomorrow “because something came up in the city?” Yet all I hear currently is some plug for some website.  Something came up in the city? Is this just an excuse that New Yorkers use?  Hmph. Show Business.

John Chow Review

Was the John Review worth the $400? You’re damn right is did. I made my money back in a record 57 minutes. Currently, we already raised $2k of our $50k goal for our Free Car marketing campaign. Here are some highlights that have happened so far.

  • An article was recently written by Deborah Ng from About.com
  • Darren Rose from Problogger.net commented that he would be interested to film if he won the poll and if the price was right.
  • John Chow confirmed that he would be interested to film if he wins the poll between Shoemoney, Problogger, and Dosh Dosh.
  • A radio morning show has set an interview with me. Oh don’t you just love this sneaky game? Muahah. Blogging the Movie will be on the radio with The Keeler Show on Monday 9/17 at 745 am EST. Click here for the details.
  • Over 2k of the 50k has been raised.
  • BTM is getting a booth at Blog World Expo.

Why do I love John Chow readers? Because to me, they have the strongest opinion. They can make or break your idea extremely quickly. They will give an honest opinion of an idea. And to some this idea of having a movie about bloggers seems to be the craziest. The free car giveaway will go down in history as the most ridiculous prize.

Blog World Expo Booth

Congratulations to all the bloggers/companies who have signed up to become a sponsor. The current size of the booth is 10 x 10. The cost of this booth is $2500 if we sell all 500 sponsorships in time we will try to get a 10 x 20 booth and showcase the car. So here’s what to expect at the booth for right now.

We’re going to Las Vegas for Blog World Expo 2007

posted on: September 14th, 2007

Las Vegas

That is right! Sin City November 8th and 9th. Blogging the Movie will be in Las Vegas filming at Blog World Expo 2007, the first Blogging Expo of this size. From my recent email with Blog World Expo, they gave me the green light to film the documentary. So if you are going to the expo let me know maybe you can have a quick cameo. They have lots of sponsors at this expo, lets see if BTM can get them put some sponsorship in the movie.

Light Bulb! To some, a light bulb might have just clicked in your head as to how I will be going about getting sponsorships. Now lets put yourself in the shoes of a Marketing Executive from one of these companies at the Expo. Who wouldn’t want to be part of this movie? The main sales tactic is fear that someone else will take this opportunity if I don’t. Haha.

Another Sneaky Bastard moment. This is what I mean by Sneaky Bastard. It’s using Game Theory in my marketing tactics. I don’t hide my tactics; I’m an honest Sneaky Bastard. It brings joy to my day when I can come up with a great idea.

Marketing at Blog World Expo

My PR rep and I camp up with an idea to give a bonus to all the sites that buys a Car Sponsorship by 10/20/07.

As a bonus I’m putting your domain name on the back of the T-shirts. Currently I will make 500 shirts. Maybe more depending on the budget.

Filming

The film crew will be there filming me meeting other bloggers, companies, executives, and most of all networking. We will be doing short interview, so if you are interested hit me up!

Booth?

Right now with the current budget we just going as attendees. We will get a booth for 2008. However if for some reason I actually sell all my ads in time, we will buy a 10k booth and showcase the car with the domain names. It would be nice, however that is dependant on you the reader. If you have not bought a sponsorhip and would like to learn more click here.

Update | With only 2 days after the John Chow review we have had some exciting news with the press.

About.com | Has an Article about BTM by Deborah Ng

KeelerShow | We received an email from the KeelerShow - My name is Mark Piersma I’m the producer for the Keeler in the Morning Show in NY I was looking to set up an interview about the Blogging Movie, which
I may say is a great idea. I’d love to get you on the show thanks

- Let’s see how this turns out? Why will media grab this story?? Because it is newsworthy. It’s never been done like this before. It’s exciting and fresh. So if other media outlets would like to interview me or if any bloggers wants to ask me 5 questions to make a blog post interview. Shoot me an email to bloggingthemovie [at] gmail.com

Increase your profits by merchandisng like a Convenience Store

posted on: September 13th, 2007

711

Why are Convenience Stores successful?

Stores like 7 Eleven, ampm, and small gas station mini marts are successful because they have one thing in common they save the consumer time. Time is money. That’s why they can charge $5-6 for a bottle of tylenol when you it is regularly $2-3 in a drug store.

How does this apply to your blog?

You’ll rarely find an empty shelf spot at one of those stores. They are jam packed with products to sell to optimize their profits, yet they never feel overwhelming. The store always has this sense of open space. Make sure your all your ads are in the right place. You need to save your readers time. So they can come back to a nice well organized store. How does a convenience store apply to your blog? Here are some analogies:

  • The customer is the mouse pointer.
  • The entrance of your blog would be at the top of the page or the right side of the page. Readers either landed to your page from typing in your site name or by clicking a link. Before the page even loads the pointer naturally goes to the right side of the page to scroll up and down or close out of your site.
  • The isles of the store are represented by the top navigation bar. Just like how you stop for few seconds after you step in the store to see where everything is at, you have to apply that same theory to your navigation bar.
  • The check out stand is the link to your subscription or social widgets. This is why the feed button is usually at the top right corner or at the bottom of each post, because that is usually where the mouse pointer is hovering. You want to maximize your sale transaction or in this case subscription count.
  • The last minute items like gum and snacks near the check out stand are your ad placements because you want to point your readers to a related subject. They are about to leave your page anyway so you might as well get paid to do so. So if the check out stand is at the top right you better have your ads near that area. That’s why Shoemoney’s ad placement are all at the top and right side of his page. You wouldn’t put gum and snacks at the back of store so don’t use a left sidebar and place your main money maker at a bad location. Here is Shoemoney’s ad placements.

Shoemoney ad placement

    .

  • Does your blog act as a Convenience Store? I hope it’s not a Big Box retailer like Costco, where all the items are hard to find. Yes it is has lots of content, but how often do you shop there. You want high repeat traffic. So optimize your site for easy navigation.

Our film crew - Paper Plane Productions

posted on: September 13th, 2007

Let me re-introduce our film crew Paper Plane Productions. Their recent work includes filming the behind the scenes footage for The Rebel - the most expensive Vietnamese blockbuster movie to date. Paper Plane Productions also edited the trailer seen below. Enjoy!

Film crews for documentaries are dramatically different from full on movie productions. The crew has to be small enough to travel all over the world with me, yet their must have top of the line equipment to capture the best quality. Paper Plane Productions has experience working in extreme weather conditions of the Vietnamese jungles, so filming bloggers all over the world will be a nice vacation.

FAQ: How can you possibly afford a film crew with such a small budget of $50k from the car?

Well for one, we plan on using a trailer for Blogging The Movie (which is currently in progress) to get investors and sponsors involved. There’s one other thing and it’s called “Royalties”. They will be sharing percentages of the profits when a major distribution company picks up the movie. Once that happens the money will pour in like passive income. That’s why they will be fighting even harder to make this movie a success.

Just like how I know that once this is a success, the cash will flow in to this site. Imagine Blogging the Movie dot COM being branded as a resource center for millions of people that are starting off. Imagine the traffic that the site will get. Imagine the affiliate programs trying to buy ad space on this site. Imagine the traffic the 10 featured bloggers will get. Imagine the media of giving away a free car through blogging.  Imagine being branded as a 1 of the 500 sponsors for the free car giveaway.
